|Address||almendro, 28005 Madrid, Spain|
The PRIVILEGED VIEWS from the flat are probably among the most picturesque in Madrid: the baroque dome of San Andres Church, dating from XVII. Surrounded by enormous cypress and old rooftops, gives a true Mediterranean taste, specially at dusk and dawn.
LOCATION is its highlight. La Latina is well known for its tapas bars and fabulous restaurants (modern Spanish or international cuisine). Just behind Plaza Mayor, and within 7-9 minutes’ walk from the Royal Palace, Sol and Gran Via. Famous Rastro Market is also here: vintage furniture, old taverns and tapas bars... with all the castizo style from ancient Madrid.
The apartment has one bedroom, a living area, one private bathroom and separated Kitchen.
In the living room, details where important during renovation: the handmade woodwork restoration of XIX century entrance door, balconies and shutters. They match with the elegant marbled and wooden floor. The space has two stylish cream marbled small tables from 1950's, a Dining table and designer white Eames chairs for 3 people, a sleeper sofa for 2 people with selected scarlet with blue velvet fabrics on the cushions, 42" HD TV and an old framed map of Madrid. You can enjoy the balconies views having a drink f you want!
Master bedroom has another French balcony, a double bed (150x200cm) with drawers underneath (and a mattress you just won't forget), a spacious 3x3 meter high closet, 2 oak side tables from 1940's, an orange headboard and 2 fine photographs.
The private bathroom, with marbled floor, has a bath tub. The separate kitchen has white Carrara marbled floor, a huge family-style new refrigerator and freezer, microwave, cookware, espresso coffee maker, new washer, orange juice mixer, water boiler...all you need. On the wall, one fine art large format (1x1 meter) photograph from Laos decorate the kitchen. There is a collapsible table with 2 stools useful to hang and chat during breakfast time.
In short, a bright, great located, Mediterranean style, and great refurbished apartment in the right spot of city.
Convenient for longer stays. Please, note that the building has no elevator, and that it is a frequented and lively area on Friday and Saturday.
Please be aware that the building is having some works during July.
ABOUT THE AREA
The neighbourhood of La Latina is known as the Austrian or the Habsburg Madrid, it is the oldest part of town, the medieval and Renaissance Madrid. Its name comes from the Austrian Habsburg dynasty, which reigned in Spain until 1700 and to which belongs to the important kings Philip II and Carlos I. The zone incorporates the small streets around the Calle Mayor, the Plaza de la Villa, where you find the City Council, the plaza de la Paja and the Plaza Mayor.
This neighborhood has a charm that makes it a favourite of both tourists and the local people of Madrid. It is one of the neighbourhoods that provides the richest sense of authenticity and the real identity of Madrid. It is also surrounded, without the need for long journeys, with a long list of museums, cinemas, theatres and emblematic monuments where you can experience the culture of Madrid, both rich and varied.
From the Iglesia de San Francisco el Grande you can go all the way to the Carrera de San Francisco. The Plaza San Andrés is dominated by the dome of the chapel of San Isidro, which houses the museum of the same name. The museum shows much of the history of Madrid, from its beginnings as a fortress to its birth as a Muslim metropolis.
The street Cava Baja, close to here, has excellent restaurants, among them the renowned Lucio. In the Plaza de la Cebada, originally the local market, which was demolished in 1956 and rebuilt as we see it today. From there, look for the calle Almendro and the famous tavern with the same name. Not far away is Plaza de Cascorro, in the heart of the popular street there is a Sunday market held, the Rastro: the outdoor market well known throughout Spain, which takes place every Sunday.
