The cabin is well adapt to have full families over. It is basically equipped to host all sort of wildlife-lovers. There is hot water and a full kitchen and bathroom. The indoor fire-place makes the cabin very cosy and the large garden is very enjoyable, especially for the children. It is a three hour ride south from Paris, perfectly located in the north of the Auvergne, in the Allier.
In the Middle Ages the forest was owned by the dukes of Bourbon who used it for hunting. The Fôret de Tronçais offers great variety with its unexpected views of lakes, shrubbery and estates. Within the forest and at its edges you will find several lakes. The Ètang de Pirot has sunbathing, swimming, fishing and water sports facilities. The forest is home to a variety of wildlife such as wild boar, roe and red deer and many smaller animals. There is also a wide variety of bird species, including many species of owl. You'll get your money back if you haven't heard one of them in a week!
With an impressive height of 37 m, the ‘Chêne Stebbing’ is not just the tallest tree in the Forêt de Tronçais, but in fact the tallest sessile oak in all of Europe. The oak wood from Tronçais has been used for the production of oak barrels for hundreds of years. The barrels are primarily used for maturing cognac and red wine. The forest is crossed by long lanes intended to facilitate hunting.
