Broad sidewalk cafes, Berlin’s oldest beer garden and the boutiques between restaurants and bars make the former working class district of Prenzlauer Berg, or Prenzl’berg, a great place to people-watch. It’s one of the most desirable places to live among arty singles and young couples.
My 2 bedroom apartment is right at one of the hot spots of the city, with two central tram lines right outside the door ( M10, and M2).
M10 takes you in a few minutes to touristic attractions like Mauerpark and its famous Sunday Flea Market, as well as the new Berlin Wall Museum.
M2 takes you right to Alexanderplatz, the most famous Berlin Square withit‘s huge Television tower and rotating restaurant at the top, for breathtaking views over Berlin.
The apartment is in an old heritage-protected building from 1907 with 3.20 meter high ceilings, thoroughly renovated and furnished in style. It's just perfect for a couple, but the charming small second bedroom is very cosy aswell.
The apartment is fully equiped and you will also find tips and notes on funky Restaurants, Bars and other places you shouldn‘t miss, most of them in walking distance.
You will find everything you need during your stay, making it a great starting point for your trip around the city.
There aren’t museums to speak of in Prenzlauer Berg, but you can still sightsee.
Two blocks away from the apartment you have the famous Kollwitzplatz, which is named after the famous Berlin artist and sculptor Käthe Kollwitz. It is one of the most lively squares in Prenzlauer Berg, surrounded with tons of Cafés, Restaurants, little Boutiques and Curiosities shops. There’s also a weekly organic food market on the square and President Clinton even came to dine here at Gugelhof while on a state visit.
The block in the northwestern corner of Prenzlauer Berg holds the KulturBrauerei (‘culture brewery’), one of Berlin's gems. This 19th century brewery complex shut down production in 1967, but it now makes a living on the night shift. A nightlife Mecca that with its red bricks, towers and chimneystacks resembles an old town setting. A cobblestone pedestrian way courses through the center of the former beer brewery, whose 20 buildings with 40,000 square meters are filled with bars, restaurants, clubs, galleries and a cinema. Now that it's also home to the district's tourist information centre, it has established itself as the best place to start and end a day in the Kiez (district). 20,000 visitors each weekend can't be wrong; this is one of Berlin's special corners.
From here, you can head south on Kastanienallee, which is full of more restaurants, bars, and several funky shops. Or, head north to the U-Bahn Eberswalderstr. to speed to your next destination. If you didn’t fill up on food at the beer garden, grab a curry wurst to-go from Konnopkes Imbiss (under the U-Bahn tracks between Schönhauser Allee and Danziger Str.). It’s been grilling sausages since 1930 and along with Prater Beergarden, is one of the icons of the neighbourhood.
If you are looking to dip deeper into the famous Berlin Nightlife after all the coffee, food and beer, you are most welcome to ask me for tips and point you in the right direction.
The same goes for culture tips, museums and other city highlights.
