The apartment, in a grand old house built in early 20th century, occupies the entire ground floor with level street access and sheltered garden courtyards front & back.
If not for the schoolhouse across the road we would watch the ferry come and go beyond the park less than 100m away (60yds). A peaceful and safe environment 50m (30yds) from the shopping village famous for boutiques, cafes and restaurants and with a 7/11 supermarket.
Short stays are welcome but so too are longer stays of 1 or 2 months. Many guests are artists, performers and professionals working in Sydney, this place offers comforts and freedom of a home lifestyle. **Special rates can be negotiated for long stays and exclusive use is also possible, enquire before booking**
The large bedroom has a queen size bed with feather pillows and heavy damask cotton sheets. Simple multi-function storage allows easy relief from suitcase living, even if for short stays. The tree-top window overlooks a quiet private courtyard. Let the birds wake you up..literally!, many guests comment on the extraordinary sounds of nature so close to the city.
The kitchen is well equipped and has a private guest fridge. The paved courtyard off the kitchen even has a BBQ for enjoying Sydney's amazing weather. Laundry facilities include washer and dryer. Towels and linen are all provided and changed as needed, so to is room cleaning.
This is a perfect location to visit Sydney, whether for work or pleasure. It's close proximity to the city, while sheltered from the hustle & bustle, offers welcome homely relief after a busy day.
Sydney downtown is less than 4km (2.5miles) away. From there it's 1 minute walk to Opera House, The Rocks 'Old Town', Botanical Gardens, Central Business District and main transport terminal. The fastest way is ferry in 10 minutes, train (Edgecliff) in 15 minutes or bus in 25 minutes.
If here to work, commuting by ferry offers a spectacular way to start the day, arriving at Circular Quay between Opera House and bridge. Many guests flag this as the highlight of their stay.
If you catch the ferry in the opposite direction, you'll soon be in beautiful Watson's Bay - with clifftop nature reserve, beaches, more restaurants and cafes, and from 'The Gap' a breathtaking 360 vista of ocean and harbour, including spectacular views of the city in the distance.
No smoking permitted inside
There are very few fixed rules for this household, I am pretty easy going.

Very nice appartement with a nice garden. Double Bay is a nice part of Sydney. I felt very save there. Stefan knows lot's of nice places to go, beautifull walks, parks, beaches, etc.
And Stefan likes to talk with his guest.
We had the pleasure of staying with Stefan in his beautiful apartment for New Year's despite booking the accomodations on rather short notice. Even during the booking process, Stefan already showed himself as a great potential host as he was communicative and quickly got back to me regarding the booking. We communicated several times before our arrival and every time, Stefan was quick to reply and offered up help where needed. After our arrival in Sydney, he proved to be a gracious host with great tips and recommendations. It was great chatting with him and we never felt crowded while sharing the living space with him. We had a grand time in Sydney and loved the closeness of his apartment to the city, the various ways we had to get into town (we took both, the trains and the ferry, and both were quick and easy to use), the fact that he provided maps as well as transportation cards used to tap on and off the public transportation and the general friendliness we were met by, not only by him but by Sydney in general.
Stefan is a very friendly and good host who gave us a lot of ideas and suggestions that made our stay more interesting. The kitchen is well outfitted with all necessary cooking equipment. The room was very adequate for a short stay in the nice area of Double Bay. We enjoyed the garden having a BBQ with Stefan and found the conversations we had really interesting and witty.
Double Bay is a fine location from where you can discover and enjoy Sydney. At harbourside, close to the center and the beaches and very nice to discover the surroundings by jogging. The room has a perfect bed and the kitchen everything to make breakfest and dinner. We had a nice BBQ with Stefan in the garden. Stefan was very helpfull and has many ideas that made our stay special. Thanks Stefan, we hade a great time!
First of all, great house! The bed is very comfy, the bedroom is calm, bathroom is clean...all you need for a great stay. Double Bay is charming and quiet but also very practical to go to the city. Stefan always has good tips and knows the city very well.
But the best thing at Stefan's place is that you're gonna meet Stefan who is an exceptional host, a great person and a brillant mind.
Do not hesitate !!
From the first moment we entered Stefan's house, he was the most kind and ready to help person ever. He is a really interesting person with really interesting conversation to have with. He show us the best things to do in our first days in Sydney and we definitely appreciated all his suggestions. The best we could ever get. Hope to see him again at least for a beer!! Thank you so much Stefan!!
This place I highly recommend.
Firstly stefan is an easy going host available when you need him and gives you all the informations you want to know. Secondly there is no better place to start exploring the city and surroundings. .few minutes to all public transport to beaches and best of all great shopping and pubs/restaurants around the corner.
His little garden is a lovely retreat after a busy day. Inside the house nicely decorated but to our taste a bit dark
We had a really good holiday. We spent about three weeks at Stefan 's house. From time to time the weather was cold so also in the apartment was chilly. Sydney has also pretty humid climate which you could also felt inside.
Stefan was very frienly and he gave a lot of good tips for making our vacation better. We saw a lot diverse Sydney than if we were just experienced travel guide suggestions. Every morning he asked about our plans for the day, then he gave his good tips - fortunately, we followed those. :) The apartment was conveniently located, train and ferry station's was close by.
Stefan is a nice and easygoing host. It's an old building with its own back garden where you could have a nice breakfast or dinner when weather is good. The ferry station is quite near, only a 3 min walk, but the ferry connection to Sydney CBD isn't very often, especially on weekends, so we chose train as our main transportation. But a ferry cruise is worth doing because the scene is especially good when it nearing the circular quay, as Stefan recommended.
My husband and I flew from Canada to Australia on Jan 1, 2014. We stayed with Stefan from Jan 4th to Feb 5th. His home and location were much better than we could possibly have imagined. His home is the lower half of a 2 storey house with a beautiful courtyard out back that we made full use of. Many mornings and evenings were spent in this secluded and private spot. The location is just as Stefan has described with only a 5 minute walk to the ferry dock. We purchased one week passes that gave us unlimited use of the ferries, trains and buses. This allowed us to see all of Sydney and also travel outside of the city. Stefan was able to give us great advice on how to get from Point A to Point B anywhere in Sydney and his ferry timetable on the fridge was invaluable.
The kitchen was fully stocked for cooking and we had our own small fridge for milk, beer, water, chocolate cake, etc. The bedroom was a good double size with ample storage and comfortable bed and pillows.
Double Bay itself is a wonderful village with lots of shops, restaurants, bars and banks. The staff of these places soon got to know us and were very friendly and helpful.
Last but not least, Stefan was a wonderful host, full of local knowledge and helpful tips. He was unobtrusive but always available for advice whenever we needed him. Pete and I highly recommend this location to anyone traveling to Sydney for pleasure or business and we look forward to returning in the years to come. Thank you very much Stefan and love to Debra!
